Apps are short for applications. Apps are the software programs that works on a software system such as Personal Computer (PC/desktop), laptop, smart phones. Ex: You may be familiar with WordPad on your computer. WordPad is actually an application that runs on your main background computer software. The idea of them is that they’re computer programs which are used to do a particular kind of job so WordPad is used for writing or word processing, while Application PowerPoint for making presentations . In 2007, Apple launched an online store where you buy all sorts of these mobile phone applications specifically designed to run on the iPhone. So now, common parlance essentially has it that when people are talking about apps, 95% of the time, they’re going to be talking about small programs specifically made for mobile phones. The Android Market sells them for Android phones, the Windows Marketplace sells them for Windows Mobile phones, Symbian still has its huge support of apps out there as well as Palm, BlackBerry as well. Mobile Phones also come with their own apps pre-installed too.

In 2010 Intel launched the Intel AppUp(SM) center. It is a service that allows end consumers to browse a centralized catalog of applications for purchase or download to their netbook or other personal computing device. Applications are available for many different categories including social, education, entertainment, communications etc. More applications are being added to the store all the time. The best way to see what is available in the Intel AppUp(SM) center is to install the client software and search the storefront. The Intel AppUp client officially supports the Windows operating system from Windows XP Home- Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bits.
