How to play Pokemon Go?

Niantic’s Pokémon Go, the augmented reality mobile game, has become a global phenomenon since it launched in US,Australia and Newzland on 6 Jul 2016. . The game requires players to explore the real world to find Pokémon, collect items at Pokéstops and conquer gyms, and a lot of work has gone into the game’s mapping.

You can download the app for free for either iOs or Android. But you can also make in-app purchases to boost your game. Once your app is downloaded, your phone uses its GPS capabilities to present you with a map of your actual surroundings in the real world, where you can catch Pokemon in the wild, meet other Pokemon trainers, and, yes, even battle Pokemon

  • Using your smartphone GPS and camera, the Pokemon Go app turns the device into Pokemon hunting devices.
  • It  uses an on-screen map that mirrors your environment to guide you toward Pokemon. Pokemon will appear on screen accompanied with a vibration.
  • Once you find a Pokemon, you use Poke Balls to try and capture the little beast. Flicking your screen, you launch the balls at the Pokemon in the hopes of capturing it. The best way to do it is to try to fling the Poke Ball high enough to hit Pokemon on its head. If it’s a hard-to-catch beast, you might have to fling Poke Balls at it for a while. Once you capture it, it’ll go into your Pokedex and you get some experience points (which are used to level up your character. Leveling up your character will allow you to find rarer Pokemon.
  • Once you capture said monster, it will catalog it into Pokedex, an index for Pokemons.
  • PokeStop: Eventually you will run out of Poke balls. So you’ll have to go searching for a PokeStop, which gives you free items, potions to revive pokeballs and Pokemon eggs for hatching baby Pokemon
  • PokeGyms are battelfields where you battel with other people Pokemon. To interact with the gyms you (i.e. your character) have to be level five or above A battel consists of rapidally tapping and swiping the screen to fight until one team runs out of Pokemons.

According to the Offical Pokemon GO Facebook page, the game is now available in 26 more European countries

“As of tonight, Trainers living in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland are able to download Pokémon GO from the Play Store or App Store.”

Though the Nintendo headquarters is found within Japan itself, ironically, it’s one of several countries around the world that has yet to see a Pokémon Go release date. In an interview with Reuters, Niantic Chief Executive John Hanke revealed the game would be launching in some 200 countries and regions around the world “relatively soon.” Unfortunately, there’s no real indication of how soon that could be or which countries might get a release date first. Among the countries hoping to see the game arrive quickly are Canada, Japan, Ireland, Brazil, India and the Philippines.

Ingress, the augmented-reality multiplayer game, was launched in beta by Niantic in 2011. Its users are responsible for helping create the data pool that determines where Pokéstops and gyms appear in Pokémon Go. John Hanke, the CEO and founder of Niantic, is a Google veteran. He was one of the founders of Keyhole, the company Google bought to start Google Earth, and had a hand in Google Maps before forming Niantic. The company spun off from Google’s parent company Alphabet in 2015.

The app itself is free on Apple and  Google’s app stores, but as players progress in the game, they make in-app purchases using PokéCoins, the in-game currency of Pokémon Go. Players need these coins to buy useful items, such as Poké Balls, which are needed to actually “catch” Pokémon, and for inventory upgrades. There are ways to earn coins within the flow of the game, but the quickest way is to shell out the cash. Users can pay anywhere from 99 cents for 100 PokéCoins to $99.99 for 14,500 coins.

Apple and Google, collect a 30 per cent of in-app purchases. This means that every time players buy Pokéballs the companies make money. It is presumed that out of every 100 units earned at the app store, 30 would go to Apple, 30 to Niantic, 30 to Pokémon and 10 to Nintendo.
