Rich People of the World

Rich People of the World

Aren’t Rich People Bad? Isn’t Money Evil?

We all agree that Money is necessary. It is not possible to kick this Money away from our lives. How would you eat? How would you get new clothes, mobile?  It means going back to the Stone Age?! Relocating to a forest and live with nature. Do we want to do it?

Money is used as a means of exchange, and something must be given worth in order that people can dependably “trade” goods and services. Otherwise, you are literally trading goods and services which we know if very inefficient way to live.

So we agree that Money is Necessary. Right

Is knife Good or bad? In the hand of the surgeon it saves a life, in the hand of the murderer, it takes life. Is Knife responsible or the person using it?

If there is an accident by a car who is responsible for it – the car or the person driving it?

It’s not as if Money has a mind of its own. It’s a tool, like a knife, like a car.

Everything depends on the person who uses it. While gives the power which brings greediness But it can help many people.

Bill Gates, among the top three richest men in the world, has been spending his enormous wealth, through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which he started with his wife. As of the end of 2016, the charitable foundation had given away $41.3 billion in grants and currently has the largest endowment of any private foundation in the U.S. The Gates Foundation funds everything from malaria prevention in Mozambique to smoking cessation in China to college costs for kids in the U.S.

Think Steve Jobs and iPhone. Steve didn’t become rich because he sold just one iPhone. He became rich because he figured out how to sell iPhones to millions of people across every continent of the world.

Those wealthy people usually are running businesses and providing thousands of work for people. Amazon employs a more than half a million people, yes half a million people, and plans to hire thousands more. And how does Jeff Bezos, one who started Amazon and is the richest man in the world, spends his day. Jeff Bezos wakes up without an alarm, washes dishes after dinner, and has a soft spot for ‘Star Trek’

The question was beautifully answered by writer Ayn Rand in her book Atlas Shrugged which was published in 1957. A 1000 pages book  “to show how desperately the world needs prime movers and how viciously it treats them” and to portray “what happens to the world without them. Atlas Shrugged is one the both in terms of the number of pages with small font and philosophy and is famous for people not finishing the book.

Our article Is Money Good or Evil? Are Rich People Bad, Atlas Shrugged discusses the concept in detail.

Jeff Bezos

Great feats need time to become a reality. As Bezos states, “If you’re not stubborn, you’ll give up on experiments too soon.” I will hazard a prediction.

Jeff Bezos is the richest person in modern history. The Amazon.com founder’s net worth cracked $150 billion in New York on Monday, 16 Jul 2018, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. That’s about $55 billion more than Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, the world’s second richest person.

Jeff Bezos is the riches man as he owns 16% of e-commerce company Amazon, which he founded in a garage in Seattle in 1994.  He also has a broad portfolio of investment. Bezos also makes personal investments through venture capital vehicle Bezos Expeditions, which has backed impressive companies across a wide range of industries, such as Twitter, IMDB

Bill Gates

I think it’s fair to say that personal computers have become the most empowering tool we’ve ever created. They’re tools of communication, they’re tools of creativity, and they can be shaped by their user.

If you have worked on a computer at home, you would know Windows operating system developed by Microsoft Corporation. The Chairman of Microsoft is William (Bill) H Gates who is the richest man in the world. He has $62 billion. He lives in Washington (USA).

Born on Oct. 28, 1955, Gates grew up in Seattle with his two sisters. Their father, William H. Gates II, is a Seattle attorney. Their late mother, Mary Gates, was a schoolteacher. Gates attended public elementary school and the private Lakeside School. There, he discovered his interest in software and began programming computers at age 13.

In 1973, Gates entered Harvard University. While at Harvard, Gates developed a version of the programming language BASIC for the first
microcomputer – the MITS Altair. In his junior year, Gates left Harvard to devote his energies to Microsoft, a company he had begun in 1975 with his childhood friend Paul Allen. Guided by a belief that the computer would be a valuable tool on every office desktop and in every home, they began developing software for personal computers. Gates’ foresight and his vision for personal computing have been central to the success of Microsoft and the software industry.

Gates was married on Jan. 1, 1994, to Melinda French. They have three children.

Gates is an avid reader and enjoys playing golf and bridge.
Philanthropy is also important to Gates.

He and his wife, Melinda, have started a foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with assets more than $30 billion. The organization is dedicated to fighting hunger in developing countries, improve education in America’s high schools and developing vaccines against malaria, tuberculosis and AIDS.

Bill Gates has written two books:
In 1995: The Road Ahead summarized the implications of the personal computing revolution and described a future profoundly changed by the arrival of a global interactive network.

In 1999, Gates wrote Business @ the Speed of Thought, a book that shows how computer technology can solve business problems in fundamentally new ways.

Quotes by Bill Gates

I really had a lot of dreams when I was a kid, and I think a great deal of that grew out of the fact that I had a chance to read a lot.

If you can’t make it good, at least make it look good.

If you think your teacher is tough, wait until you get a boss. He doesn’t have tenure.

Television is not real life. In real life, people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

People always fear change. People feared electricity when it was invented, didn’t they? People feared coal, they feared gas-powered engine  There will always be ignorance, and ignorance leads to fear. But with time, people will come to accept their silicon masters.

I have 100 billion dollars… You realize I could spend 3 million dollars a day, every day, for the next 100 years? And that’s if I don’t make another dime. Tell you what I’ll buy your right arm for a million dollars. I give you a million bucks, and I get to sever your arm right here.

Warren Buffett

Of the billionaires I have known, money just brings out the basic traits in them. If they were jerks before they had money, they are simply jerks with a billion dollars.

Warren Edward Buffett is a wealthy American investor and businessman. Buffett has amassed an enormous fortune from astute investments, particularly through his company Berkshire Hathaway. With an estimated current net worth of around $87 billion, he is ranked by Forbes as the third-richest person in the world, behind only Microsoft chairman Bill Gates. He is nicknamed the “Oracle of Omaha” or the “Sage of Omaha.”

Despite his immense wealth, Buffett is famous for his unpretentious and frugal lifestyle. He continues to live in the same house in Omaha he bought in 1957 for $31,500. His chairman’s salary from Berkshire Hathaway of $100,000 per annum is extremely modest by corporate American standards.

In December 2006, it was reported that Buffett does not carry a cell phone, does not have a computer at his desk, and drives his own automobile.

Buffett also is a notable philanthropist, having pledged to give away 85% of his fortune, roughly $37 billion to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Warren Edward Buffett was born on August 30, 1930 in Omaha (USA) to Howard Buffett, a stockbroker and member of Congress, and Leila
Buffett. Buffett has two sisters, Doris and Bertie.

His grandfather owned a grocery store in Omaha.

When only six years old, Buffett purchased 6-packs of Coca Cola from his grandfather’s grocery store for 25 cents and
resold each of the bottles for a nickel – making a nice 5 cent profit. He began working at his father’s brokerage at the age of 11, and that same year made his first stock purchase, buying Cities Services preferred shares for $38 each. He sold them when the price reached $40, only to see them rocket to $200 a few years later. This taught him the importance of investing in good companies for long term.

His entrepreneurial spirit was present even as an adolescent. At the age of 14 he spent $1,200; he had saved up from two paper routes, to buy 40 acres of farmland which he then rented to tenant farmers.

In 1947, a seventeen-year-old Warren graduated from High School. His father had other plans and urged his son to attend the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania. Buffett stayed two years, complaining that he knew more than his professors. Warren returned home to Omaha and transferred to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Working full-time, he managed to graduate in only three years. He was finally persuaded to apply to Harvard Business School, which,
rejected him as “too young.”

Slighted, and completely surprised, Warren applied to Columbia where famed investors Benjamin Graham and David Dodd taught – an experience that would forever change his life. He got A+ in security analysis class, which is the only A+ ever handed by Benjamin Graham.

Disappointingly [and strangely] enough, both Ben Graham and Warren’s father advised him not to work on Wall Street after he graduated.
Absolutely determined, Buffett offered to work for the Graham partnership for free. Ben turned him down. It was also during this time that he began teaching night classes at the University of Omaha.

Buffett married Susan Thompson in 1952. They had three children together.

In 1954, Graham invited Buffett to Graham-Newman. Graham was a tough man to work for.

Buffett returned to Omaha in 1956 after two years. He had no specific career plans in mind until he met his first major client,
who sought Buffett’s expertise to manage investments for him. This paved the way for Buffett to establish his investment partnership, financed with his own money, together with money from friends and family. He ran the partnership out of his bedroom, adhering closely to Graham’s investment approach. The partnership was named Buffett Partnership Limited (BPL). Between 1956 to 1969, BPL made approximately 30% gains year-over-year in a market, where 7% to 11% was the norm.

In 1962, BPL established a position in Berkshire Hathaway, a large manufacturing company in the declining textile industry that was selling
below its working capital. Buffett redirected the cash not required to maintain the textile business to acquire private businesses and stocks of public companies.

Warren Buffett Quotes

I always knew I was going to be rich. I don’t think I ever doubted it for a minute.

The first rule is not to lose. The second rule is not to forget the first rule.

Can you really explain to a fish what it’s like to walk on land? One day on land is worth a thousand years of talking about it, and one day running a business has exactly the same kind of value.

The risk is a part of God’s game, alike for men and nations.

It’s better to hang out with people better than you,… Pick out associates whose behaviour is better than yours and you’ll drift in that direction.

Chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.

The business schools reward difficult complex behavior more than simple behavior, but simple behavior is more effective.

You should invest in a business that even a fool can run, because someday a fool will.

Time is the friend of the wonderful company, the enemy of the mediocre.

Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.

I want to give my kids enough so that they could feel that they could do anything, but not so much that they could do nothing.

Risk comes from not knowing what you’re doing.

Let us do or die.

I don’t have a problem with guilt about money. The way I see it is that my money represents an enormous number of claim checks on society. It’s like I have these little pieces of paper that I can turn into consumption. If I wanted to, I could hire 10,000 people to do nothing but paint my picture every day for the rest of my life. And the GNP would go up. But the utility of the product would be zilch, and I would be keeping those 10,000 people from doing AIDS research, or teaching, or nursing. I don’t do that though. I don’t use very many
of those claim checks. There’s nothing material I want very much. And I’m going to give virtually all of those claim checks to charity when my wife and I die.

Carlos Slim Helú

When you live for others’ opinions, you are dead. I don’t want to live thinking about how I’ll be remembered

Carlos Slim Helú is the eighth richest man in the world as per Forbes. His Net worth is $62 billion. He is from Mexico. He is a self-made man and he has amassed his fortune in Telecommunications (mobile & landline). His principle is “Maintain austerity in times of fat cows.”

From his parents he learnt the value of family He also received his first business lessons in early childhood, as Don Julián gave each of his children a savings book with their usual weekly allowance in order that they learn to manage their income and expenses. They reviewed this book with him, analyzing their expenses, purchases and activities, and by following this rule Don Julián’s children managed their finances and developed their own wealth. From that time, investment and savings were part of young Carlos’s life, becoming his first lesson in
business, which he soon put into practice by opening his first checking account and buying shares of Banco Nacional de México when he was only 12 years old.

Carlos Slim Helú Quotes

In this new wave of technology, you can’t do it all yourself, you have to form alliances.

I still have my laptop but I haven’t used it. I’m a paper man, not electronic.

I’ve always said that the better off you are, the more responsibility you have for helping others.

Just as I think it’s important to run companies well, with a close eye to the bottom line, I think you have to use your entrepreneurial
experience to make corporate philanthropy effective.
