Overview of Indian Rupee Notes

The Indian rupee (sign: ₹; code: INR) is the official currency of India. The rupee is subdivided into 100 paise (singular paisa). The issuance of the currency is controlled by the Reserve Bank of India and notes are signed by Governor of RBI.

Notes have two sides, the side which has the face of Mahatma Gandhi is called as Obverse & the other side is called Reverse. These notes show the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi on the face & hence is called a Mahatma Gandhi series.

The pictures on the back of Indian notes reflect our culture, our history, our progress.

The contemporary Indian notes are

• Rs 10 (Chocolate Brown with Konark Temple picture),
• Rs 20(Red Orange),
• Rs 50(colour with a picture of Aqua Vittala Temple in Hampi),
• Rs 100(Lavendar with the picture of Rani ki Vaav),
• Rs 200(Bright Yellow with picture of Sanchi Stupa),
• Rs 500(Stone Grey with the picture of Red Fort)
• Rs 2000(Magenta with the picture of Mangalyaan Mission).
